Sustainable Swimwear, Crafted with Intention in Ibiza

Fashion produces more carbon than aviation and shipping combined. Of the 150 billion garments made each year, most are worn a handful of times and then discarded — a cycle that depletes resources, exploits labour, and pollutes the seas that inspired them in the first place.

DEESSA was built as a refusal of that model.

Every piece in our collection is designed in our Ibiza atelier, cut and sewn by skilled local artisans, and made from materials chosen for their environmental integrity. We produce in small, deliberate batches — not to create scarcity, but because we believe that things made carefully last longer, wear better, and mean more.

"We do not make disposable fashion. We make pieces that carry the light, the salt, and the spirit of Ibiza — designed to be kept, not replaced."

Our Commitment to the Island That Inspires Us

Ibiza's posidonia meadows — the UNESCO-protected seagrass beds that filter the Mediterranean and give Ibiza's waters their legendary clarity — remind us daily what is at stake. Our sustainability commitment is not a policy document. It is the reason we exist.

Production

Made in Ibiza, by Hand

Every DEESSA garment is cut and assembled by local artisans in Ibiza, paid a fair wage.

Keeping production on the island eliminates container shipping emissions, dramatically shortens lead times, and allows us to maintain direct quality control at every step.

Local is not a marketing claim — it is the foundation of everything we make.

Zero-Plastic, FSC-Certified

Our shipping boxes are produced in Denmark from FSC-certified cardboard.

Hangtags are printed on FSC-certified card in Italy.

Tissue paper carries FSC certification. Drawstring bags are sewn in Spain from GOTS-organic cotton.

Materials

Fabric Born from the Ocean

Our swimwear fabrics are woven from ECONYL® regenerated nylon — recovered from discarded fishing nets, ghost gear, and industrial plastic waste pulled from oceans and landfills.

We also source deadstock tulle and surplus fabrics from certified Italian mills, giving unused materials a second life rather than sending them to waste.

Philosophy

Slow Fashion, Not Fast Fixes

We do not overproduce.

Each collection is released in limited quantities with care for longevity — pieces designed to outlast trends, resist fading in salt water and sun, and become part of a wardrobe for years, not weeks.

The most sustainable garment is the one you wear forever.

Inspired by Tanit. Responsible to the Sea.

DEESSA takes its spirit from Tanit — the ancient Phoenician goddess whose cult found its deepest roots in Ibiza over 2,500 years ago. As the goddess of life, balance, and creation, Tanit stands for the belief that beauty and responsibility are not opposites. That to create something truly beautiful, you must also protect what sustains it.

The Mediterranean that surrounds Ibiza is one of the most biologically rich — and most threatened — seas on Earth. The posidonia oceanica meadows beneath its surface produce oxygen, sequester carbon, and support the marine ecosystems that have fed and inspired these islands for millennia. We see protecting them not as obligation, but as devotion.

Choosing DEESSA is a choice to wear something made with integrity — from materials reclaimed from the sea, by hands that know the island, in quantities that respect both the environment and the craft. It is slow fashion, in the most literal sense: deliberate, considered, and built to last.

Every DEESSA piece carries a quiet truth — made with care for the island that inspired it, and the ocean it sits beside.
