What Happens Tonight

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, Ibiza sits within the path of totality. The Moon covers the Sun completely for 64 seconds. The next time this happens over the island is 2053.

The partial phase begins at 19:39. For almost an hour, the visible surface of the Sun gradually disappears. Totality begins at 20:32:43. At 20:33:15 comes the peak — the midpoint of those 64 seconds. At 20:33:47 the Sun's edge returns. The eclipse ends at 21:24.

Why Ibiza Is Different

Totality coincides almost exactly with sunset. The Sun will be just 3.1 degrees above the western horizon when the Moon covers it completely — effectively at sea level, over the Mediterranean, with the last light of the day still in the water beneath it.

That combination almost never happens. It won't happen here again until 2053.

Where to Watch

The western horizon must be completely clear. A hill, a pine tree, a building in the wrong place — anything blocking the last few degrees of sky — and totality is gone. The west coast has the best positions. The east coast faces the wrong direction entirely. The interior risks natural obstacles at the horizon.

Traffic restrictions are in place along much of the west coast today. Allow time for this. The 64 seconds will not wait.
